Born and educated in the USA, Gloria has lived at the same rural New Zealand property since 1971.

With qualifications relating to broadcasting, psychology, and home economics, Gloria has taught science in secondary schools, worked at the Marsden Point Refinery Expansion as Senior Induction Instructor, and as the Media Skills course co-ordinator at North Tech.   

Her community involvement includes time as the chairperson of the early Save-Ngu-Sandspit campaign, She is a Life Member Rural Women NZ, a committee member of Tutukaka Coast Residents & Ratepayers Assoc, and a life-long supporter/participant in trade unions and cooperative efforts (PSA, PSIS-Cooperative bank, Farmer's Mutual, Farmlands).

Gloria has a passion for blue-water sailing - in Alaska, Canada, Mexico, and the Pacific Islands to and from New Zealand, twice.
